Accommodation The university provides accommodation for all single postgraduate students paying overseas fees and who apply for their accommodation by the specified date. Please note, however, that rooms may not be available for very late applicants and in this case you may have to find accommodation off campus. Further details will be sent to all students who apply to Keele. If you are coming to Keele with your family we recommend that you arrive on your own so that you can view the wide range of properties that are available (some will be off campus). We can reserve you a room in our short stay accommodation whilst you look for off campus accommodation. You can then arrange for the rest of your family to arrive later. If your level of English is lower than required. Keele may be able to offer you a place on a pre-sessional English course prior to the start of your degree course. The pre-sessional course is offered at Keele for 6 and 12 weeks prior to the start of the semester in September 2016. Longer courses are available at our partner colleges – English in Chester and Walsall College. They will help you strengthen the skills that are essential to your success while studying and researching. Our academic English for postgraduate students classes are designed specifically to meet the needs of international postgraduate students and researchers. Pronunciation and fluency improvement classes can help you to refine your accent and public speaking skills. All classes are free to Keele students and researchers. We also offer pre-sessional English courses for applicants who do not quite meet the English language requirements. The unit also offers the opportunity for students to learn other languages, typically including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Please note that tuition and accommodation fees are usually subject to a small annual increase. Our international student support team provide advice and support to international students. They also organise many international events on campus and trips across the UK for international students. English language requirements All overseas applicants, must have, or be about to achieve, an appropriate level of English language. If your first language is not English, you will be asked to provide proof of a recognised English language qualification. You must obtain at least an IELTS score of 6.5 (with no sub-test score lower than 5.5) for postgraduate taught courses, 6.0 or higher for research degrees depending on the subject, or hold a previous degree which has been taught and examined in English, unless the specific entry for the course indicates otherwise. 86 Pre-sessional English For details of our tuition fees for international students visit: www.keele.ac.uk/postgraduate Living costs will be largely dependent on your own lifestyle. If you live on campus, accommodation costs for 2015/16 were in the range of £4,000-£8,800, depending upon the type of accommodation. We anticipate costs for 2016/17 will be a little higher. Other costs vary but we estimate that you will need in total at least £820 per month, plus the cost of travel to and from Keele. You will also need approximately £250 for books. Those not familiar with colder climates should allow for an additional amount in the first year to buy warm clothing.
