Support
for students
Whichever form of postgraduate study you choose,
Keele offers a range of resources and support
services to make sure that you get the most from
your time with us.
IT services
Teaching and support
• Access to the campus network, email, internet,
the latest software, archived file storage space
and printing
For taught master’s programmes, teaching will
mainly be through lectures, seminars, laboratory
classes and small discussion groups where tutors
will help direct your learning, rather than telling you
what you should know. Students working towards
a PhD will work closely with their supervisor.
University library
Our library offers a variety of study environments
from silent and private study areas to group study
rooms and wireless networking. The library is
open 24 hours a day, seven days a week during
semester time. The university also runs a health
library based at the nearby University Hospital
of North Staffordshire. In addition to access to
over 900,000 books and specialist databases,
our postgraduate students can borrow from
most other academic libraries in the UK.

English language support
The English Language Unit (ELU) supports students
whose first language is not English throughout their
time at Keele. They will help you strengthen the skills
that are essential to your success while studying and
researching. Our academic English for postgraduate
students classes are designed specifically to meet
the needs of international postgraduate students and
researchers. Pronunciation and fluency improvement
classes can help you to refine your accent and public
speaking skills. All classes are free to Keele students
and researchers. We also offer pre-sessional English
courses for applicants who do not quite meet the
English language requirements.
The unit also offers the opportunity for students
to learn other languages, typically including Arabic,
Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian,
and Spanish.
