INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Information Technology and Management Overview The growth in the application of information technology has increased the need for people who have a comprehensive range of skills required to analyse, design, implement and manage IT solutions in a modern business environment. Information technology management requires a multidisciplinary skill set and this innovative course will bring together components from both the School of Computing and Mathematics and Keele Management School. If you have already acquired some knowledge of computing, it offers you the opportunity to gain highly marketable IT, business and management skills. It is also suitable for those already in the profession who wish to improve and develop technical and managerial skills, as well as graduates at the start of their career. Additional information The aim of this course is to develop technical skills and also to gain a critical understanding of the management of information technology in the context of organisational/business issues and challenges. You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars and workshop sessions and these include a mix of group study, discussion and presentations by teams and individuals. A virtual learning environment is used to provide you with access to a wide range of learning materials. Module titles This is a twelve month programme starting in September, comprising eight taught modules plus a project or industrial placement. During the first semester you will take three core modules and choose one elective module. There is also one core module which runs throughout the first and second semesters. During the second semester you will take two core modules and choose one elective module. From the end of May to September you will undertake a project or industrial placement. The following indicates the range of modules that may be offered and may be subject to change: Core modules: • Accounting for Decision Making Course type MSc, postgraduate diploma, postgraduate certificate Mode of study Full-time Entry requirements Applicants are expected to hold at least a secondclass honours degree (or overseas equivalent) in Information Technology or Computer Science, or to have appropriate professional qualifications and work experience. Overseas applicants will also need to have an English Language qualification of IELTS 6.5 or hold a previous degree which has been taught and examined in English.
