programme is designed for
those wishing to pursue in-depth
academic study in the field of
human resource management
and associated disciplines, with
a view to working, researching or
teaching in the subject area.
Keele Management School is a
main provider of Human Resource
Management and Industrial
Relations courses and research
in the UK. Students on this course
come from a wide range of
backgrounds and disciplines and
from all around the world. The
teaching team is active
in research and publication,
focusing on international and
national employment and
equalities aspects of public policy,
spanning both private and public
sectors and typically featuring
high levels of engagement with
employers, trade unions and
government bodies.
Additional information
This programme provides a
thorough understanding of the
employment relationship and an
excellent grounding in the theory
and practice of human resource
and labour management. It
locates these through historically
informed treatment of the
subject area, examining key
institutions, problems and issues
in contemporary human resource
management and employment
relations. The main focus is on the
UK but this is set within a broader
comparative perspective, enabling
an assessment of contrasting
systems of employment relations
and an evaluation of a range of
crucial issues on a European and
global scale.

Each student is allocated an
academic tutor to explain key
themes, develop study and
writing skills and provide advice
on assessment.

Taught modules are assessed
by essays and the research
dissertation is based on your
own research project. In order
to obtain a master’s degree,
students must obtain 180 credits,
of which 120 credits are from
taught modules and 60 credits
from the dissertation. Students
taking the postgraduate diploma
follow the taught modules only.
You are encouraged to undertake
research connected with your
current or previous human
resource management experience.
