WILLIAM
DAVIS
JUST WHAT THE 7TH DISTRICT NEEDS
As a community activist, very dissatisfied with
Snyder, Schuette and the House and Senate not
working for him, or most residents, William
Davis encouraged others to run for office; to
replace the current politicians with ones who
work for the people, not for the corporations.
When the opportunity arose for William to run
for Police Commissioner in District 7, he
decided to take his own advice.
Retired after 34 years at the Detroit Wastewater
Treatment plant, President of Detroit Chapter of
the National Action Network and President of
the Detroit Active and Retired Employees
Association, William wants a better, safer world
for his two sons. A world where people are
judged on their actions, not their appearance, or
where they happen to be or where they live.
Since residency requirements for employment
were banned in 1999, the percentage of
municipal employees who live in Detroit has
been dropping. More police officers than ever
before, live outside the City of Detroit.
Candidates from Northern Michigan, who have
had little contact with people of color are being
brought in to police a predominantly black
community. “There need to be more actual
Detroit residents in the Police Department. The
department should represent the citizens of
Detroit and not feel like they are an occupying
army”
There hasn’t always been true community
oversight so “I’m running to make sure that the
people in the 7th District are properly
represented and make sure that things are done
for the people, not for the corporations”.
