WHY IS THE COST OF WATER SO HIGH?
By Jan Johnson
When we turn on the tap, many of us don’t think about how water makes its way
to our homes. Learning more about the water cycle, and the delivery of water
helps us to make a positive impact on water availability, water quality, wildlife,
and our budget.
Water availability and cost is affected by 5 things: Infrastructure, scarcity,
consumption, rainfall and pollution.
Almost 25% of the world’s communities lack a way to distribute water. Around
the world, people, mostly women and children, do the work of collecting water for
their families. This work often involves walking for hours a day to lakes, streams,
rivers and ponds.
