KALEIDOS Number 3 | Page 81

The naming Kaleidos comes from kaleidoscope, which is an optical instrument, typically a cylinder with mirrors containing loose, coloured objects such as beads or pebbles and bits of glass. As the viewer looks into one end, light entering the other end creates a colourful pattern, due to repeated reflection in the mirrors.

The word is derived from the Ancient Greek καλός (kalos), "beautiful, beauty", εἶδος (eidos), "that which is seen: form, shape" and σκοπέω (skopeō), "to look to, to examine", hence "observation of beautiful forms.

Kaleidos Magazine came from the vision of Samuel Moorsider. He dreamt of a magazine solely dedicated to photography: a platform to showcase our virtual world through the eyes of a team of dreamers and image poets who work for the love and passion of photography in Second Life.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” We believe in the beauty of our dreams and we want to share it with each one of you.
