conversation I had with Linda in which I was reflecting on my own
childhood experiences with bullying. When I entered middle school, I
was tall, awkward, uncoordinated, and much more effeminate than was
acceptable in my small Catholic school. I became the target for a lot of
bullies and without art as a way of expressing myself, I could have
gone down a very dark path. I was fortunate to have her as a mentor
during that difficult time, and I want this project to be a way of sharing
that good fortune with others.
