Anjali House is a non-profit organization providing free food, healthcare
and education to under-privileged street kids and their families in Siem
Reap, Cambodia. “We believe that no child should be forced to beg or work.
We believe that they have the right to enjoy their childhood – to learn, play,
make friends and grow in a safe and happy environment. These are basic
rights that no child should be denied.”

Family Support By assisting the Anjali families with food support,
micro-loans and subsidized health care, Anjali House eases the burden on
them to force their children to work, ensuring regular school attendance.
Education Education provides independent and analytical thought,
fosters self-confidence and provides opportunities the children would
otherwise not have access to.
Basic Care Anjali children often don’t have sufficient facilities or
instruction at home to properly care for their health and hygiene.
At Anjali House, they shower, brush their teeth and receive medical
treatment when necessary.
The Arts The arts are increasilngly being recognized as a way to
improve cognitive learning, increase right-side brain development and
build self-esteem among disenfranchised children.
According to the
World Bank,
20.5% of the Cambodian
population lived below
the poverty line in 2011.
The poverty line is
defined as US$ 0.93 per
day. That is 1 in 5 people.
With so much
poverty why are
NGO’s like Anjali House
focusing on something
‘fluffy’ like writing
workshops?

Cambodians do an
important job for their
temporal bodies. Growth,
however, is more than
food. Creative expression
helps nourish the soul
and paves the way for
a brighter future.
