June 2017 Magazines - Page 12

Letter from the Editor June marks the halfway point of 2017, and what an interest- ing year it has been so far. There are so many exciting and new things being created in the world, but unfortunately the news seems to want to only report the negative. The Zip Code Magazines’ goal, on the other hand, was to highlight the best of what is going on in our neighborhoods from our outstanding students, to neighbors that work very hard to make our community better. So the next time you are feeling frustrated with what is going on in the world, turn off the TV, grab a cold drink and read about the positive things going on all around you. It’s a unique perspective that’s bound to make us see the brighter side of life. This time of year marks the start of outdoor parties and gath- erings in Las Vegas. It’s the season of weddings, graduations and pool parties. Having the right combination of outdoor furnishings is essential. Our Favorite Things (pg 40) article introduces you to some of the newest and coolest things to make your outdoor space the envy of the block, whether by the pool, lounge area, yard or bar. With so much going on in the coming months it can be tough to find time to slow down. And for most, that’s when you need it most! There is, however, a place just a half hour drive from southeast Las Vegas that’s the perfect oasis to have a fun, relaxed and peaceful day. In our Livin’ Local (pg 36) article we’ll take you to the storied, yet tranquil town of Boulder City. With shopping, museums, wildlife and a righteous brewery to enjoy, it’s a great place to unwind. Summer is right around the corner and that means the kids are out of school. This is always a challenging time because they go from a very structured environment to loads of free time. That’s great for a couple of weeks, until you hear those dreaded words…“I’m bored.” In our Mind Body and Soul article (pg 58) we get advice on ways to structure our child’s daily routine during the summer, making for a fun and memorable time while incorporating self discipline and responsibility. There is a lot going on in the next few months. Make sure you check our Circle the Date (pg 78) section or go online to www.zipcodemagazines.com so you don’t miss out. As always, thanks for your support, and I look forward to seeing you in the neighborhood. Greg GREG WAGONSELLER Editor-in-Chief greg@ppplv.com
