Get 'em while you can,
despite the irrefutable
abundance of red
snapper in the Gulf,
recreational fishing for the
species is open for just nine
days; sorta.
As the never-ending battle over the red snapper situation continues, for those who just want to
catch the tasty fair, you have options. We caught up
with Capt. Eric Newman and Capt. Moe Newman
with Journey South Outfitters out of Venice to get
the skinny on everything red snapper!
1) For die hards that must use their own gear,
boat and tactics you now have just 9 days (June
1st, 2016 - June 10, 2016) to do so, in federal
water.
2) Or stay in (Louisiana) state waters and fish
them year around; but be warned the boundary is
nine miles and in certain areas subjective to how
the game wardens feeling that day.
3) Federally Permitted For-Hire Vessels have an extended
season, that goes to July 17, 2016. There’s something to be
said about fishing with pro’s, especially when all you need to bring
is an empty ice chest!
