The Devil works in an achievement oriented environment, placing emphasis on the material aspects of the world. Another aspect of the Devil is that at times he can act in “too moral” a manner, tending to be "über" judgmental. We are binding ourselves, through our obsessions and our beliefs. The focus with this archetype is sensuality and sexuality. As Toni Gilbert says in “Messages From the Archetypes”, the Devil is a chaotic force of nature, and he is there to shake things up!

At what times might we see the archetype of the Devil in our lives? In a bad or abusive relationship, when dealing with compulsive or addictive behaviors, when we feel oppressed by someone or something, or when we are trying to determine what is real versus what is illusion.

What do we want to ask ourselves when the archetype of the Devil enters our life? Sample questions might be:

1.Where are you limiting yourself?

2.What boundaries are you placing around yourself, and why?

3.What (or who) are you attracted to in a compulsive, addictive manner?

4.Are you using your inner resources in a constructive manner?

5.What are you not wanting to acknowledge or deal with in your life?

6.Are you able to see the humor in the people and/or issues in your life?
