Open to young adults ages 14-23 who identify as lesbian , gay , bisexual , transgender , queer , and / or questioning , this regular gathering allows local LGBTQ youth to be in a supportive environment , build community , feel safe , increase self-awareness and positive self-regard , and develop stronger connections to the local community . Weekly activities vary between guest speakers , games , LGBT culture , community outreach and more . The group is co-facilitated by volunteer adult mentors . Participation is free . Selected photographs by Phil Roeder are on display . Roeder has worked for 30 years in public relations and communications . Today he is the director of communications for Des Moines Public Schools . His work has been exhibited in Iowa and published around the world . He has earned awards at the Iowa State Fair photography salon and in the Capture the Heart of America photography contest , and he was presented with the merit award at the most recent Des Moines Exhibited show . His work has appeared in National Geographic Traveler , The New York Times , The Atlantic , Wired , Forbes , and Vice to name a few . JOHNSMITH CAPITAL CAMPAIGN BENEFIT CONCERT

6:30 PM @ GRAND OPERA HOUSE Johnsmith possesses a genius that cannot be denied , ignored , or overlooked . For over thirty years , Johnsmith has been sharing his music all across America and abroad . He has become a favorite at festivals , clubs , and house concerts alike . In addition to being a Kerrville New Folk Winner , Johnsmith has released seven solo CDs to rave review , leads , musical tours to Ireland , teaches songwriting , and has served as a staff songwriter in Nashville . All proceeds benefit the Grand Opera House “ Spotlight on the Future ” Capital Campaign . A pre-show VIP wine / beer and hor d ’ oeuvres reception begins at 6:30 p . m . with the concert at 7:30 p . m . A post-show reception allows VIP patron to meet the artist .
