A LOOK INSIDE by Gina Siegert
So much has transpired this year that those 365 days seemed like an eternity . We have been very busy here at Julien ’ s Journal with BIG plans for the upcoming 2017 . And I am excited !
Ending the 41st year of publishing our magazine , we got with the program and invited all of you , as well as those who don ’ t subscribe , to visit our new website and social media program . Lots of you are paying attention ! And many like to view our e-magazine , especially the events . We also found that many of you like to see who was promoted , hired , and where . Keep an eye out for more streamlined events and find out more event details on our Facebook . It ’ s a good way to stay informed .
Beginning in February , we will add two new magazines to the family . CHOICES – Senior Living Magazine is for the over 50 crowd , ( yes , I am a part of that group ) who want specific articles on trips , hobbies , culture , and finance , as well as health choices and information about critical care for our age group . Our hope is to help you live healthy and enjoy life ! CHOICES will be published quarterly . And also available for FREE on our website . Feel free to send ideas on topics you would like to see in the magazine . And I hope you enjoy the first issue , which will arrive next month .
Following in March , we are adding a new bi-annual magazine called Tri-State Home TRENDS , which will cover up-and-coming innovations , information , and trends for all those who are thinking of remodeling or building a new home . Our first edition will include the Tri-State Home Builders show .
Looking back at September 2010 when I took over the reins of Julien ’ s Journal , I envisioned the possibility of a “ city and regional magazine .” It was the magazine ’ s 35th year and a major shift was about to take place when G . A . Publishing began to take on the challenge of how to best serve the community . We try each month to bring you the most important issues relevant to our citizens along with profiles of the people who strive to make a difference in our community and move our city forward . Julien ’ s Journal will continue to highlight growing struggles and achievements , our progress and setbacks . I believe this region will see great structural and cultural transformations in the coming years , and I can ’ t wait to see the outcomes !
The January issue takes a look at several economic aspects for 2017 . Connie Cherba interviewed the young and innovative couple , Brad and Jillayne Pinchuk , co-owners of Hirschbach Motor Lines . Read about how they have transformed their workspace in order to keep their employees happy and healthy .
Kristin Dietzel , Vice President of Workforce Solutions at Greater Dubuque Development Corporation , explains the efforts underway to fill the skills gap in our current and future employment scenario .
Also , read about our Illinois neighbor and see how the efforts of a few are making a big difference .
In 2017 we hope to include blogs from our column writers on wine , recipes , and restaurants they recommend . I invite you to use Julien ’ s Journal and our social media network to keep you involved with this wonderful community .
The staff of Julien ’ s Journal will be busy , and I hope healthy . We all wish you a joyful holiday and prosperous and happy New Year .
