A TATTOO TALE
UNIVERSITY ISN ' T FOR EVERYONE , SO IT ' S GREAT AND COMFORTING TO HEAR A STORY ABOUT SOMEONE WHO IS FINDING JOY AND SUCCESS WITHOUT IT . NATALIE HEPWORTH MEETS DAISY HORNE WHO GIVES US A PEAK INTO HER LIFE WORKING IN A TATTOO SHOP .
In December 2010 , TCB Tattoo was opened by tattoo artist Gallo , in Twickenham the home of rugby . He took the beautiful Daisy Horne in as his apprentice , then when he left to Malta he asked her to run the shop . So on Friday 13th January 2012 , Daisy took over and renamed the store TLC Tattoo . ‘ It was originally called TCB Tattoo which is what Elvis Presley used to sign men ’ s autographs with , I changed it to TLC Tattoo because that ’ s what Elvis signed women ’ s autographs with ’, explains Daisy . She also tells us she has so many tattoos that she ’ s lost count , but her favourites include ‘ Sweet little bullet from a pretty little gun ’ written across her fingers which she says means , ‘ I came from a strong but lovely woman & I can be sweet but look after myself ’, it represents strength . Another of her favourites is a key on her arm that she designed , which ‘ fits ’ in a lock tattoo she designed for her mother . Daisy no longer tattoos as running the business takes up a lot of time , but she intends on completing a piercing course and eventually move to Malta become an apprentice for one of her friends there .
‘ My advice for someone wanting a tattoo ? They need to spend a lot of time researching artists to find the perfect person for them . Try to get a look at the artist ’ s portfolio . Also not all tattoos have to have a meaning- if you think something is beautiful why not tattoo it onto your body and have it with you where ever you go ? For me it ’ s about when I had the tattoo that means the most . I remember exactly where I was in that point of my life with each tattoo I have . I also suggest booking a consultation with the artists to talk about ideas , placement etc . The more you leave to the artist the better the tattoo will come out , they do know a lot , but don ’ t be afraid to say you don ’ t like their idea , it ’ s personal to you and lasts for life ! Also one last BIG tip is don ’ t go for the lowest price ! ‘ Good tattoos aren ’ t cheap , & cheap tattoos aren ’ t good ’ - Sailor Jerry .’
