HOMEMADE BOOK PLANTERS
Do you have any old , torn books that you find kept on a shelf ? Out of sight and out mind , right ? Well , don ’ t be in a hurry to throw them out just yet ! Where there is a will , there is always a way . I ’ ve come up with some innovative ideas for you to conjure up at home ,
in order to create some fresh and unique knick-knacks to make your house extremely cosy and stylish .
WHAT DO YOU NEED ?
Vintage book Your plant of choice Potting soil Scalpel PVA Glue Cling film or plastic bag
HOW DO YOU MAKE IT ?
The night before , put a very thin layer of PVA glue on the book pages . It will help to cut into the book as the pages will stay in place .
Cutting the square in the book is the tricky part ! Cut through a few pages at a time , pull them out and then do a few more and work your way down the book . You will need a hole that is at least 1-1 / 2 inches deep . ( The hole does not need to be clean or pretty because the only page that will be visible is the top one , so don ’ t worry if the edges are deckle and curved .)
Line the hole with cling film or plastic bag . This just prevents any watering from damaging the rest of the book . Put a layer of soil at the bottom of the hole .
Start with the main plants and separate it from the soil it ’ s packed in . Place it in the hole where you like . You will need to pack the soil tightly around the roots to make them stand .
Neatly hide surplus clean film just below the surface and blow off any dirt that you have got in the book . You ’ re done ! TIP : Once a week you will need to spray a little bit of water into the roots , just try to avoid getting water on the title page !
