Many may find the idea of medicinal cannabis simply horrifying or somehow wrong . This is because we are constantly being fed information of how marijuana is the dangerous gateway drug that will eventually lead us down a path of illicit drug use . Although , there is truth to that , many fail to realise that prescription drugs have just as much potential to turn people into ‘ junkies ’, and that legal drug addiction is just as damaging , being responsible for an increasing number of deaths around the world . In the UK alone , one million people are addicted to over-the-counter and prescription painkillers and tranquillisers .
Over the past years there have been numerous miracle stories of how cannabis oil can in fact help cure cancer and other diseases such as MS , with some people actually buying their own ingredients and making ‘ Breaking Bad ’ style homemade cannabis oil . The oil itself requires an extra stage of preparation once the plant has been harvested , as the plant itself contains the active chemicals of THC which is what recreational users need in order to ‘ get high ’. But just to be clear this is not what is driving the medicinal properties , so don ’ t go flocking the streets finding any dealers . Not only would you be funding organised crime but the cannabis ‘ off of the streets ’ is likely to be low quality , and when it comes to using it for medical problems it is vital that you know what you ’ re getting and that it is safe .
Although , the success stories can be a way of proving that cannabis oil can help fighting cancer , at the moment there isn ’ t any firm evidence from clinical trials to prove that they can safely and effectively treat cancer in patients . Despite this , knowing that some cancer patients are treating the illness with cannabis , it is helping researchers build a stronger picture of whether these treatments are really helping or not .
