Whilst underweight models continue to dominate catwalks worldwide , some may argue that the fashion industry has done little to shed the extreme body images it has promoted over the years , the latest bid to tackle the troubling issue has been put into action in France , in the hope of becoming one step closer in combating eating disorders .
It may be home to one the most admired capitals , but in France alone shocking figures of around 40,000 people currently suffer from anorexia - the majority of that number consisting of women and teenage girls , but thats not to say that there isn ’ t still a large amount of that number who are males as well . It something we ’ ve all done ; admiring the abnormally flawless models featured in magazines and on the internet , but the question is :
Is the fashion industry to blame for these extreme body disorders ? The fact is there are going to be several issues contributing to the matter . However there is no denying that the industry promotes the glorification of thin models , and without doubt there are people all over the world who look to these models , aspiring to achieve their minuscule body frames .
The new legislation that has been approved is part of President Francois Hollande ’ s campaign to target the disorder , joining countries Spain , Italy and Israel in the ban and making it a crime for fashion agencies to use excessively thin or undernourished models . Those who fail to follow the approved law will end up facing a hefty fine of over € 10,000 (£ 7,344 ) and up to six months in prison . In a
