Interview

2 MINUTES WITH OLIVIA NORMAN-READE

Liv Norman-Reade is 18 and studies digital film production at Ravensbourne in London .
Tell us about your ‘ are we born gay ’ video . Basically I wanted to make a film toshow people what it means to be gay and how the world perceives it . People thinking its a choice need to see from actual people their feelings and emotions . So I interviewed Eliza to show her story and how she didn ' t choose this is just the way she is , the same as people have preferences to music , clothes and food . It ' s how your body is built to work . Not how we choose to think .
Do you think the film industry is prejudiced against females ? I think it can be . I don ’ t think people mean to be but because the film industry is so male dominated it ’ s a perception . I think people talking about it and making a deal of women in the industry makes it more of an issue . From the inside its not . Women are complete accepted but from the outside looking in people judge .
How would you describe your look ? I dress and look to be comfortable . I look more a men ’ s fashion because I prefer that clothing . It ’ s more comfortable and I prefer wearing jeans and a top that a skirt . It ’ s more practical and I think it represents me as a person . My hair changes a lot purely because i get bored !
What does being a girl mean to you ? Personally I don ’ t look at gender as something to separate . I believe in women and do what I can to make us a strong gender , but as long as we are equal I don ’ t separate us from men in my mind . Being a girl means I can do and wear what I want but I don ’ t think I am defined by my gender .
