Trainer Takeover
Trainers have been big in the street style world for a while , but only recently have trainers entered the big fashion world and even appeared on catwalks . Although originally only created for athletic purposes , they have transformed into a women ’ s wardrobe staple and a key item for the coolest street wear looks .
This fascination with trainers have been drawn from what the people are wearing , as appose to the normal hierarchy of the designers deciding what is going to be big next . It was the street style wearers of London and well known fashion bloggers that persuaded trainers to become huge . " The boundaries of streetwear have widened into high fashion ," says Niranjela Karunatilake , co- editor of the new edition of the book Sneakers : The Complete Limited Editions Guide . The phenomenon is ever growing with an increasing amount of collaborations between celebrities , designers and sportswear brands . Trainers have become an essential pair of shoes for anyone , of any age .
Designer Zandra Rhodes , 73 , is another fan . “ They ’ re an antidote to the incredibly high shoes that women have been wearing , and comfort when you ’ re working is essential ,” she says . “ In New York , where everyone travels around on public transport , women often wear them into work . I love the colourful ones and think anyone can wear them . Why not ?” It seems Celine ’ s Phoebe Philo started the jump from street to couture catwalks : " I remember at the end of a Céline show a few seasons ago , everyone waited for Philo to take her bow , and she popped up wearing men ' s trousers and trainers ," says Natalie Kingham , head of fashion at matchesfashion . com . " And now that ' s the look you see most at the shows ."
