NEW YORK NEW YORK

After a ten day visit to New York City I . Am . In . Love . Manhattan is crazy and Brooklyn is awesome . It ’ s what I imagine Shoreditch to have been like 10 years ago before the introduction to the ‘ hipster ’. In comparison to London everything is a lot slower , subways are older , everything is bigger .
The vibes in America were a lot different to England . For instance you could ask a stranger on the street for a lighter and would end up having a good chat or even getting a coffee with them . One rather interesting guy we bumped into was in his 50s-60s smartly dressed in a very nicely tailored suit . He wanted to talk to us because he thought we had ‘ style ’ and likewise we thought the same about him . Next thing we knew he was putting on a pair of retro-looking , bug eye sunglasses ( the sort you would find in Camden market for £ 7 ). He was in awe of them and said whenever he wears them it gave him ‘ charisma ’. Seeing how cool he felt from just a pair of sunglasses made me feel so humble about fashion and what confidence and personality it can give you . a combination of being overwhelmed and tiredness but it was it was so wonderful and beautiful and so surreal to see . I would probably even go as far as saying MoMA is one of the best gallery I ’ ve been to .
Like London , New York has its central part ( Manhattan ) and similarly more quirkier places such as Williamsburg in Brooklyn which is surrounded by galleries , cool bars and thrift shops . There is also Coney Island . Imagine having a bad day in London and being able to get a 30 minute train to the beach and a paradise theme park . There are also of course the typical ‘ tourist trap ’ places like Time square , Central park , Macy ’ s , Empire State building which are all magnificent and wonderful to get lost amongst .
In terms of Art galleries New York is full of them , my favourite was MoMA , located in central Manhattan and a 5 minute walk from Time Square . I adore all kinds of arts and Roy Lichtenstein ’ s Drowning Girl ( 1963 ) is one of my favourite pieces of Art ever , when I stumbled across it ( MoMA is huge ) I felt myself going all teary eyed , probably
