Where is your favourite place in the world ?
My favourite place in the world would have to be my home town of Dee Why on the northern beaches of Sydney , Australia . Being able to roll out of bed and be standing on the headland taking photos in front of a majestic golden sunrise in less than 4 minutes is a blessing .
Why should people feel encourage to go travelling ?
Travelling truly expands and unlocks the mind . It grounds you and shows you how much you don ’ t know and awakens that inner child yearning to explore and become familiar with new surroundings . Even jumping in the car and driving a few hours away from home can be enough to get a taste of adventure and excite the soul . Don ’ t be afraid of just getting completely lost !
How is is working with Instagram Personalities like Jay Alvarrez , Sjana Elise , Steph Pacca and Hannah Polites ? They are all so awesome and inspiring and it ’ s safe to say there is never a dull moment . Despite their mind blowing followings they are genuinely just lovely and creative people who have ultimately found a way to live their dreams . When we go and shoot it isn ’ t your traditional photo shoot ! I always insist that there be no nerves or tension or staged shots , just chill chill chill ! This energy that they seem to constantly ooze is infectious and has really helped shape me as a photographer and as a creative working in the industry .
What inspires you the most in life ?
Music . 90 % of the time I am taking photos I will have portable speakers in my camera bag or some big comfy headphones on and will get in the zone . Music has this amazing capacity to shift the mood in any situation in any direction . As mentioned I always aim to evoke feeling and mood in my work and if I am inspired by a certain sound while shooting , it will nearly always translate into my own work .
Can you talk us through your new venture The Social ? What was the inspiration behind it and how did you get started ?
Last year three mates and I got together and were rather fed up with the nightlife scene in Sydney , as the government has recently cracked down on laws relating to alcohol in clubs etc . We craved the awesome fun parties we used to go to when we were younger , then had an epiphany . Why couldn ’ t we just start a company that organises these kinds of events !? So that is just what we did ! We created a Social Hub that was Sydney specific where we could partner with local Bars and Clubs to organise huge events for people in our age bracket . We also paired this with a slick online publication going by the slogan “ Young People . Cool Shit ”, and thats basically what it is ! Everything young and cool all curated into a slick website for people to browse and explore .
