Graphic designer

JACK STOCKER

What inspired you to become a Graphic Designer ?
Since first starting school I was always really interested in art and drawing as a child and at the same time my brother had got a job as a graphic designer . I guess looking up to my brother and being interested in creative arts kind of fell together and that ’ s how I decided what I wanted to do . As I grew older and started choosing graphic design as my path of education through college and uni it confirmed that that ’ s what I wanted to do .
Who is your favourite artist or designer ?
I can ’ t name one favourite designer but when I came across Alex Trochut ’ s work he had a big influence on where I wanted to go with design . I enjoy the variety of styles that he delivers and his work within branding , not to say this is the only style I want to create but it is one area that I enjoy .
Where do you see yourself in 5 years ?
Ideally i ’ d like to be working as part of a design agency or an established clothing / fashion brand and continuing freelance work on the side .
What helped your develop your skills as a designer ?
At college I studied photography , textiles and graphic design . I decided to choose the 3 together rather than choosing one or two academic lessons as I felt I could incorporate parts of each lesson within another . After finishing college and going in to my foundation year I felt I was able to give a broader range of skills to my design which is a massive benefit .
What has been your previous work experiences ?
In the past I have worked in collaboration with Size ?, The Daily Street and Staple after having my The Minimal Sneaker Study exhibited at Exposure gallery , London . The illustrations for my exhibition were inspired by Paul Huxley ’ s basic shaped paintings of which I wanted to mirror as a similar style with a subject that I was interested in , trainers .
From this , I worked with Jeff Staple to create 4 t shirts , the Nike Air Max 90 ‘ Infrared ’, Air Jordan 1 ‘ Bred ’, Staple ’ s pigeon , and of course the Pigeon Dunk . And then at a later date I illustrated the Air Max 1 Viotech for Staple and Packer Shoes to celebrate Packer Shoes ’ s 10th anniversary of the Teaneck , NJ store opening .
