THE INTERN DIARY

GET MORE OUT OF YOUR SUMMER
Get up and go ! Keep yourself busy this summer as a fashion intern , gain the experience you need to become a professional in the industry . Most summer internships are filled with fun and excitement - the more experience you get the more you ’ ll be wanted .
LONDON FASHION WEEK
I undertook a month long placement at a London Fashion Week showcasing Design House working towards Autumn / Winter 2015 . Working across many departments such as Design , Styling , Social Media and general running of the office enabled me to have a complete view of the run up to fashion week from every angle of the business .
My time was spent mainly helping the designers and stylists with model fittings , outfit styling and organisation of every look for every model for the catwalk .
I also turned my hand to alterations , adding embellishments and adornments to pieces for the show amongst the design team and interns .
On the day of the show , I was in charge of making sure each look was kept organised and in the precise order that the models would be walking the runway whilst they were being transported to the show location and during the show .
BACK STAGE
Dressing a model backstage at the show for the first time was an incredible experience and allowed me to interact properly with many different persons from across the industry such as stylists , MUA ’ s , hair stylists and models .
Working backstage at the show was kept to incredibly restricted access . I was lucky enough to have been considered trustworthy and valuable enough to be working backstage and helping assisting with the running of the day .

WELCOME BACK
At the end of my time I was offered to stay longer , with an open invitation to return to the office whenever I ’ d like . I returned to the same company a few months later as I was invited back to help in the running of their Sample Sales ! I worked solidly all 3 days and was rewarded with so many incredible items of clothing and accessories from past , present and future collections ! It was such an amazing experience to be able to go back and be part of the team again - I was welcomed back with a hug and with the opportunity to return for September fashion week !
I was extremely lucky to be able to secure such an amazing internship without any hassle
Here are my top tips on getting an internship during Fashion Week : Email Email Email - to get an internship the best thing to do is directly contact the company . Find the appropriate persons to contact using the British Fashion Council listing for each brand . Cover Letter - always make sure to attach a straight-tothe- point covering email addressed to the correct member of their team that includes an introduction of who you are and what you can do for them as a company . LinkedIn - I was told that one of the reasons they contacted me for an interview was due to the fact that in my Cover Letter / Email I included a link to my LinkedIn profile . For the fashion industry this is a great tool as you can showcase all your experience as well as a portfolio and body of work - this really helps you to stand out ! CV - always remember to give them a copy of your CV ! A creative , well designed CV can make all the difference - it ’ s usually the difference between you being put in the bin or given a call ! Interview - Take along to your interview a copy of your CV plus a notebook ! Make sure to ask lots of questions such as starting times , locations and detailing your role a an intern with the company ! Just remember to be confident and positive - everyone was an intern once .
