Built for You: THE DESIGN OF THE PATIENT TOWER Emergency Department The modern, bright and expansive Emergency Department has been designed for patient and family care, improved functionality for staff, best infection prevention and control measures and state-of-the-art technology. 35 private exam rooms will allow for added privacy, eliminating the large shared areas that provide care for multiple patients. Built within the Emergency Department is Emergency Psychiatric Services to support patient safety and confidentiality. OUR NEW ED EXAM ROOMS Caring for You and Your Family A STANDARD PRIVATE INPATIENT ROOM The Patient Tower has been built to create the best place for our patients to receive the best care. We know many patients have loved ones involved in their care plans, so the Patient Tower is designed to care for our patients along with their families, including waiting rooms and lounges, patient rooms, family consultation rooms, exam and treatment places. Inpatient rooms are large, modern and bright with private washrooms and visiting chairs that can transition into sleeper chairs to encourage families to rest comfortably overnight. Bringing the Outside Indoors Technology Walking through the Patient Tower, you can’t help but notice the building has been designed to encourage an environment of wellness. Natural daylight floods into patient rooms, waiting areas and hallways through large windows that give views of Lake Ontario, Hamilton Harbour and the Escarpment along with outdoor courtyards, terraces and green roofs. There is an outdoor Healing Garden, Dining Terrace and a Labyrinth for patients, staff, and visitors to enjoy when at JBH. State-of-the-art technology has been incorporated into the new Patient Tower to enhance patient care. New technologies will allow for immediate communication between a patient and their nurse, at any location on the unit. An automated medication dispensing unit will distribute patient medication to nurses which supports patient safety, reducing the risk of medication errors and improving the quality of care. Digital Information Kiosks will be stationed throughout the building to provide accurate directions to any location from any location. 2 FUTURE SURGERY WAITING ROOM, CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION
