Designing for our Patients In fall 2017, JBH will open a new state-of-the-art patient tower and renovations will continue to the existing facility through to 2019, to meet the growth of our community and its aging population. Once the new hospital is complete, 70% of our hospital’s patient rooms will be singlepatient, meeting the current Ministry of Health and Long Term Care design guidelines. Step Inside an Inpatient Room We are building our new hospital to create the best place for our patients to receive care. We know many patients have loved ones involved in their care plans, so we have designed our spaces to fit our patients and their families, including waiting and lounge spaces, patient rooms and exam/treatment places. We encourage involvement by creating spaces for family consultation, documentation and care transitions. Our patients’ privacy and dignity are of upmost importance and is supported through a high proportion of enclosed rooms for assessment, treatment, consultation and care. All new single-patient rooms have a private bathroom, meeting infection prevention and control standards. Windows: Natural light and views of Lake Ontario from large windows will provide a comfortable, healing environment. Family Area: A dedicated family area will be furnished with sleeper chairs that easily pull out for comfortable accommodation. Hand Hygiene Station: Touch-free sinks are designed to minimize splashing and the spread of bacteria, meeting infection prevention standards. Hand Sanitizer and glove containers ensure visitors and staff can practice proper hand hygiene when they enter and exit the room. 4 | JOSEPH BRANT HOSPITAL
