It is hard to believe this school year is almost over. Where did the time go? We have so many accomplishments to be proud of this year at JFK. First, we implemented our 4 R and Patriot Pride student recognition program with fidelity. The students are responding very well to our core beliefs (being respectful, responsible, ready, and forming positive relationships) and are practicing leadership skills. Our students also do a great job of helping others in our own building and in the community. Recently JFK organized a 2k walk and raised over $1000 for our first responders in town. Specifically, the majority of the funds will be used to purchase equipment needed to train the canine police dogs. I am always impressed with our students’ kindness and generosity. I am pleased to report that JFK received its re-accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges last month! The NEAS&C visiting committee completed a 4-day detailed study of JFK back in October. The final report describes many of the things we do really well here, but it also specifies several recommendations JFK Variety Show June 21st Last Day of School JFK yearbooks will be handed out on Friday, June 17th. 8th grade students will receive them at the 8th grade breakfast that morning and the 6th and 7th grade students will receive them in their homerooms. If your child did not preorder a yearbook, they may be purchased for $25 cash or check (made out to JFK - please include students name, ID # and homeroom) 8th grade students may purchase one at the breakfast, 6th and 7th grade students need to go to the library to purchase theirs. that will make JFK an even better school. The committee gives us 5 years to show evidence of addressing its recommendations. I am committed to making this happen and ensuring that our students are happy successful learners. It would be hard to live in Enfield and not hear about the fantastic production of Lion King JR. that our students performed in early May. The students were truly amazing!! They have so much talent. I am so proud of our actors, set designers, and behind the scenes personnel and can’t wait to see more from them in the future. Also I am very proud of the 39 eighth graders recently inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. I am told this is the largest group of inductees in recent years. JFK teachers are doing a great job preparing our students for the academic rigors of high school. Additionally, we have had several outstanding music and choral concerts showcasing the incredible musical abilities of our students. I wish I had even a small amount of their talent! There is a lot to be proud here at JFK. Finally, I would like to remind all parents that we will be having many fun activities and field trips during the last full week of school. You will find the dates of these events in the following pages of the Patriot Herald, as well as, information being sent home. Please keep in mind that these fun events are a privilege, not a right. It is our expectation that students will be in “good standing” in order to attend these events. In other words, students must have good attendance, behavior, and academic effort in order to attend. Please encourage your sons and daughters to finish strong and work hard until the end of the year. I wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer! If you are ever in the neighborhood or have any questions, feel free to stop by and say hello.
