The deal of a
lifetime
When opportunity calls, we need to make
sure we answer I By Tiferet Maayanot
One morning, just before lunchtime, I
received an urgent call from an attorney, a
well-known colleague of mine. This is what
he said: “I’m in the middle of taking instructions on a joint venture agreement between
representatives of an Israeli public company
and a group of South African businessmen.
A conflict of interests has arisen and I cannot represent both sides. The chairman of
the Israeli public company cannot speak a
word of English. He has other directors with
him who do not speak English. He is clearly
the dominant personality and wants to
speak to a lawyer who understands Hebrew.
I think one hour would be sufficient. It has
to be today because the Israelis are flying
back tomorrow morning.”
