For a taste of sophistication, a 45-minute
drive to Paarl in the Cape Winelands will
lead you to the 300-year-old Zandwijk
Wine Farm. Under its Kleine Draken label,
the estate vineyard and winery is the only
producer in the country dedicated exclusively to kosher wines. Feast on a pre-ordered
kosher picnic while admiring the views. You
can also enjoy a cellar tour (R20), for which
booking is essential. Zandwijk Family Day is
on Sunday 14 December, with kids’ activi-
ties including a jumping castle, sand art and

Good sailors can catch the ferry for Robben Island for the half-hour ride from the
passenger terminal at the Waterfront. See
the cell where Nelson Mandela was kept for
18 of his 27 years’ imprisonment, exactly
as it was then, while listening to former political prisoners on the island relating their
experiences, during the three-hour tour.
