When Steve came to the Chev he was homeless, alone and heavily addicted to
drugs. With our help, Steve began the long road to recovery. We placed him as
a storeman in the Chevrah Kadisha kitchen. With sheer determination, Steve
worked his way up the ranks and today is Group Catering and Beverage Manager
for the entire Chevrah Kadisha organisation. He oversees the preparation of
3000 meals each day and manages an annual catering budget of R26 million.
It goes to show that sometimes all you need to go from a homeless man in
Hillbrow to the ‘King of Kneidlach’ is an opportunity and a community that
really cares.
