As director of the SAHGF, Richard Freedman says of the exhibition: “Reflection on
the past is so important for all of us in order
to understand the present and to become in
our own way agents for change in our societies. While it focuses on Germany after 1945,
it is hoped that visitors will be prompted to
engage in what makes this reflection relevant
to living in South Africa today.”
The international project was developed
by the German Department at the University of Leeds, UK; the South African Holocaust & Genocide Foundation; the UK National Holocaust Centre and Museum; Nottingham Trent University, UK; and the
University of the Free State, South Africa.
Images and text are by Professor Stuart
Taberner of the University of Leeds, who
led the project, and Victoria Nesfield. Design is by Linda Bester. JL
