Placing a pig’s head in the kosher food section of a Woolworth’s store would not only be unheard of anywhere else in the world, but no analogy of it can be found elsewhere in South African politics. Mcebo Dlamini, president of the Wits SRC, praised Adolf Hitler as a charismatic leader. It’s unlikely that recent history’s paramount racist would have been praised in any other context of South African politics, other than in a discussion about Israel. If the students of today are the leaders of tomorrow, the present situation on SA’s campuses presents a real danger for the future. The older generation of ANC officialdom had direct knowledge of Jews (and not just the Ronnie Kasrils type).
