SCENE AT… by rachel falkson Rabbi Goldman’s Gemara Shiur Siyum An elegant dinner was recently held at Sydenham Community Centre to mark the completion of the entire book of Talmud Rosh Hashanah by Rabbi Yossy Goldman’s weekly gemara shiur group. The guest speaker was Dayan Rav Dovid Baddiel of the Beth Din. Harold Jacobs spoke on behalf of the shiur members, and Rabbi Goldman delivered the siyum. Shelley Geffen catered a delicious dinner for the participants and their wives. DL Link at the Lion Park Non-profit organisation, DL Link, supports cancer patients and their families through an immensely difficult time. DL Link provides physical, emotional and any other support, including meals, lifts to treatment/ doctors and more. Recently, DL Link visited the Lion Park as a fun family activity. Participants included both survivors and people undergoing treatment, together with their families. Checkmate for Chabad Seniors The Chabad Seniors club convenes each weekday at Chabad House. Members enjoy shiurim, OT, iPad training, delicious lunches, tefillin assistance and more. In this photo, seniors Basil Wolk and Julian Camerof enjoy a game of chess at the daily programme. Union of Jewish Women hosts AGM The Union of Jewish Women recently hosted its 83rd annual general meeting at the UJW House in Houghton. Judge Sharise Weiner addressed the guests, on “Xenophobia and the Jewish experience”. Diane Levine, chairman of UJW, gave a detailed record of the successes of the past year. The Union of Jewish Women donated R40 000 respectively to Hatzolah and the CSO in recognition of their superb, dedicated service to the community. Dirshu Halacha Programme Dirshu is an international charitable foundation that promotes Torah study at the highest level. Dirshu provides tests on a monthly basis on the material covered and has tens of thousands of participants around the world. South Africa recently launched a local branch of the Dirshu Halacha programme, and has had an exceptional response.
