Worldwide jewellery sales rise by 4%
Global sales of diamond jewellery grew by 4% in 2018 compared with last year
and amounted to $85.9bn (£65.2bn).
According to Alrosa, the growth rate of the global jewellery market was lower
than in 2017 (+5%), mainly as a result of a slowdown in key consumption markets
in the second half of 2018.
In the first half of the year, there was persistently high demand from the local
population and tourists in the key consumption markets, which ensured the
growth of the global jewelry market by 6%.
Goldsmiths’ has revealed the winners of its Craft & Design Awards 2019, which
took place at the Goldsmiths’ Hall in London.
The Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council (GCDC) presented to silversmith
Grant Macdonald with its ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, and said his “contribution
and continuing legacy to the industry is significant and unquestionable”.
Macdonald was presented with the LAA silver medal by prime warden Michael
Prideaux and Tom Fattorini, sponsor of the award.
