HELP Antiques
Roadshow
One of the reasons it’s a good time to
sell now is that the market is buoyant.
Younger folk looking for places to
invest and totally disillusioned with
banks (in any country) are turning to
retro collectibles to secure a pension
in the future.
Also, so called ‘brown’ furniture is
undergoing a revival because finally
everyone has realised that solid
wood is a better investment than
chipboard. If you are looking to
invest, buy something you like.
You will already know that gold has
always been the safe bet in times of
crisis, silver is currently doing well.
However don’t buy NEW jewellery
for investment, it will take far longer
to realise any profit because of the
initial profit margin in the new retail
price.
Another difficult item for investment
is a limited edition print.
They hardly increase in value,
Rembrandt did so many etchings they
are still almost affordable, as are the
numbered ceramic plates produced
by the workers in Picasso’s studio.
Items that are too large to bring to the
Art Centre, should be photographed
and emailed
in advance to
[email protected]
for
example : please photograph labels,
joints, locks, signatures, marks on
ceramics, hallmarks etc. HOWEVER,
you don’t get the results until you
arrive clutching your €3 in your hot
little hand ! !
