Xàbia
recycled
678 tons of
glass during
the summer
The municipality has received
the “Green Igloo” award for its
commitment to recycling, which has
increased 3% over 2016
Xàbia citizens and restaurateurs have
recycled 678 tons of glass throughout
the summer 3% more than last year.
Ecovidrio, the non-profit organisation
in charge of managing this recycling,
has recognised the commitment of
neighbours and hoteliers awarding
its Green Igloo, an award for
commitment and for exceeding last
year’s recycling figure. Councilor for
the Environment, Doris Courcelles,
accepted the recognition.
According to the data this summer
(the period in which 30% of the
annual total is collected) involved
65 restaurants in its plan (important,
given the influence of this sector
that generates 50% of single-use
container waste). In addition, 36
cubes were adapted to the needs of
these businesses and collections were
increased to match demand. In 2016,
we recycled 1,698,130 kgs of glass,
meaning each inhabitant recycled
c.62.4 kg.
