The students of the CEIP port of Xàbia honored
the six cyclists involved in the terrible incident
on Sunday, May 5 (3 dead and 2 of the 3 injured
were critical). It was during the cycling ending the
road education course given by the Local Police of
Xàbia. The children pedalled with black ribbons
displaying a banner demanding more respect on
the roads as a basic condition to increase safety.
They stressed the need to maintain roads, to protect
minors, to review road painting and traffic lights
and safe routes for schoolchildren, improving eco-
awareness in drivers and zero tolerance for alcohol
and drugs at the wheel. They have also asked to
change the term “accident” to “incident” because
many of the tragic episodes that are recorded on
the roads are avoidable and can not therefore be
spoken of as a simply unfortuitous event.
