The Valencian painter was also captivated by one
of the most beautiful landscapes of Javea forming
Portitxol, the island of the same name and Cap
Negre.
The location from where Joaquín Sorolla painted
this picture is very close to the house where he
lived when he came to Xàbia. The Cove near the
port was then a virgin bay.

p. 42-43 “Xiquet de Jávea” (1896)
p.45 “Jávea”
From the same summer house Sorolla imagined
this picture. A place that today is the confluence of
Paseo de la Grava with stairs to a restaurant. In the
foreground of the canvas the old “Mollet” looks.
From the top of La Caleta Sorolla painted this canvas
dominated by Cabo San Antoni. A panoramic view
today with the masts of the Yacht Club boats added.
p. 44 “La Caleta” (1898)
That brown stone also inspired the Valencian
painter to paint all the Caleta del Puerto. Then the
beach reached what are now small fishing stores
along the access road to the north jetty.
These are just a few examples which serve to verify
that Xàbia has preserved the scenic beauty admired
by him and many others for more than a century
after the presence of Sorolla.
