In/Out debate continues with the referendum
on Thursday 23 June 2016. Registered overseas voters still have time to register a post or
proxy vote.
Spain´s general election will be held on
Sunday, 26 June 2016, that is all 350 seats
in the Congress of Deputies and 208 of 265
seats in the Senate. No party secured a majority in the 2015 election, which has resulted in
the most fragmented parliament since 1977.
Political deadlock and the failure in coalition
talks means a fresh election. This is a massive
and significcant event as it is the first time in
recent history that an election was triggered
in Spain as a result of a failure in the government formation process. Now that Spanish
protests votes have rocked the government,
it is crucially important to Spain that a strong
leader emerges after the election. Without
clear leadership and a majority government,
whatever the politics, Spain´s position in the
EU will be even more at risk than the UK´s.
So June is likely to be a significnt month for
us all regardless of our views.
