“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.”
Jeremiah 29:12 [ESV]
One afternoon I remember getting
down on the living room floor and
pouring my heart out to the Lord.
While I was down there—face first in
the scratchy carpet—I begged Him to
bring one woman into my life that I
could laugh and have fun with over a
cup of coffee. No expectations, no
requirements, just …….girlfriends.
A few days later, I received a phone
call from one of the ladies that
attended bible study. She said she
wanted to meet so we decided to get
together at a local coffee house the
next day.
I was sure she wanted to chat about
the study so I came prepared to
answer any questions she might
have. She was already there, ready
and waiting when I arrived. I quickly
grabbed my favorite cup of coffee
and headed over to join her. After we
exchanged pleasantries, I settled in
to a big leather chair and patiently
waited for her to open up the
conversation.
It didn’t take long to realize she
wasn’t there to talk about the study,
because the first thing out of her
mouth was, “I reached out to you
because God put you on my heart.
There are no expectations or
requirements for us meeting today.
This is just a couple women getting
to know each other over coffee.”
Can you imagine my surprise? I was
completely blown away by what she
said. Not only was she offering me
her friendship, but she actually
stated part of the request I had made
to God a few days earlier. I was
utterly in awe at God’s goodness.
It’s been over five years since the day
we met in that little coffee shop. My
friend and I’s relationship has
budded and bloomed in ways I never
expected.
I’m so thankful for the day God
brought my friend into my life and I
still praise him for it daily.
Are you in a position that makes it
difficult to make friends? Maybe
you’ve moved to a new town or
perhaps you and your family recently
changed churches. If you find
yours elf in a lonely season, I
encourage you to ask God to place
someone in your life that you can
build a lasting friendship with. God
hears your prayers and He will bring
the right person at just the right
time.
