FAMILY STONE SUMMER BENEFIT For the second year, we returned to the Belly Up Aspen for another amazing Summer Benefit with a performance by members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Family Stone. Prior to the performance, we offered guests the option to join us at Casa Tua for drinks and dinner, before to moving over to the Belly Up for dessert, drinks, and lots of dancing. The Family Stone, featuring origi nal members of Sly and the Family Stone, put on a sizzling show. The dance floor was packed and things heated up quickly. It was an exceptional performance and evening of fundraising attendees will not soon forget. SUMMER NATIONAL COUNCIL PARTY Once again, the JAS National Council took over the JAS Café upstairs at the Aspen Art Museum for the Summer Party, held on August 11. The evening was graciously hosted by Harry & Kathryn Fleck Peisach. To Kathryn’s surprise, she was honored that evening for her dedication and loyalty to the organization. It was a special moment for all. Julia and Allen Domingos, of Epicure Catering, once again out did themselves with a fantastic dinner spread that included organic salmon and herb crusted beef tenderloin, along with delicious accompaniments. Once dinner concluded, the sizzling 11-piece Cuban band, ¡Cubanismo!, took the stage and heated up the rooftop terrace. It was a beautiful night celebrating our amazing National Council members. LABOR DAY KICKOFF PARTY The Labor Day Experience Kick-Off Party, hosted by Compass Real Estate and Patrón Tequila, took place the Thursday prior to the Festival on the rooftop of the Aspen Art Museum. Donors, sponsors and friends of JAS were treated to hors d’oeuvres, delicious Patrón cocktails, music and more. By the end of the evening everyone was on their feet showing off their best dance moves! NYC NATIONAL COUNCIL TRIP This year, JAS staff and National Council members hit the big city in a whirlwind tour of some of New York’s hottest jazz clubs, restaurants, and museums. The trip, curated by JAS President, Jim Horowitz, gave attendees an inside look at many of the places that helped inspire the JAS Café. It was also an opportunity to see from Jim how he goes about scouting many of the amazing acts that have appeared on the JAS Café stages in Aspen. It was a wonderful gathering of JAS friends, old and new, on what turned out to be an unseasonably warm and beautiful Fall weekend! Trip highlights included: a kickoff party at JAS sponsor, D’Angelico Guitars Showroom; and a Jazz at Lincoln Center Tour, conducted by the Director of Operations, which gave us a behind the scenes look at the state of the art architecture and infrastructure of the incredible facilities. All were left in awe! We also enjoyed performances at the legendary B.B. King Blues Club and Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, as well as several dinners at world-renowned restaurants throughout NYC. A Sunday Gospel Brunch closed the weekend at the legendary Red Rooster of Harlem. It was an incredible trip, and we look forward to hosting more in the future. D’ANGELICO WINTER KICKOFF PARTY JAS kicked off the Winter Season on December 21st at the newly opened D’Angelico Guitars Showroom in downtown Aspen. A 2017 sponsor of JAS, the opening of the D’Angelico pop-up store has given the thriving partnership a local home base. The showroom is a gorgeous space showcasing the stunning D’Angelico guitars and accessories. The event featured live music from JAS students and instructors, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. The showroom was full of guitar enthusiasts and music lovers that were excited to experience the new space and engage with the friendly staff. After the party, guests were invited to head over to the JAS Café for our first show of the winter season, featuring Niki Harris & the James Horwitz Trio. 2 0 1 7 a nnua l r e po r t » 21 «
