SPECIAL EVENTS DISTRICT 8 HONOR JAZZ / MARBLE DISTILLERY RECEPTION On February 4th & 5th, a group of talented young jazz musicians gathered for the JAS District 8 Honor Jazz Program at Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale. For two days, they participated in intensive jazz training, including instructional workshops and rehearsals, with a faculty of professional musicians provided by JAS. WINTER NATIONAL COUNCIL PARTY Once again, JAS switched up the venue for our 2017 Winter National Council Party held March 17th. This year, we hosted our members at the Cooking School of Aspen. Afterwards, we headed downstairs to the Cooking School. A lovely 3-course dinner was served » 20 « jazz aspen s nowmas s prior to a sizzling performance by Etienne Charles, virtuoso Trinidadian-born trumpeter. Etienne brought his 8-piece Calypso band which threw down a “Creole Soul’ party. It was a wonderful evening honoring our supporters! CRAWFISH & CRUISERS For the third year in a row, the Crawfish & Cruisers event proved to be another successful kick-off to the JAS summer season. As the tent filled with people and the buffet line was bustling, it became apparent this event is loved by the community. Aspen Peak was back as a co-sponsor, along with Original Penguin, who generously provided their snazzy shirts for the Roaring Fork Jazz Band to wear during their performance. We also enjoyed a stellar performance from the Basalt Street Horns of Basalt Middle & High School, who had everyone on their feet. SMOKE Modern BBQ out did themselves once again with the delicious crawfish boil delicacies; Chateau d’Esclans was pouring their fabulous Whispering Angel Rose wine; Marble Distillery served up tasty specialty cocktails, and the Aspen Brewery beers were flowing. We were thrilled to have everyone come together to eat, drink, listen to our student bands, and enjoy the evening!
