Photos Tania Hobbs Article Janine Leichsenring Where do you live and how big is your property? I live on an 8-acre property in Logan Village, SE Qld Marital status: Divorced. I have two boys, Lane and Dale. They have ridden a small amount and hopefully I will be able to persuade them to ride more. Lane is a competitive cricketer and Dale is more into computers. Are the rest of your family involved in the horse industry? My mother was, and still is an active horseperson, so my brothers and sisters have all ridden horses. When did you commence riding and what was your first horse? I started riding at seven years and was an active member of Pony Club and trail riding clubs. At the age of 14 I was competing in Open Western Performance Shows, with our two Quarter Horses, Honky Do and Riverstones Jo Cilla. What disciplines did you ride throughout your life? At 17 I became a member of the Beaudesert Cutting and Western Performance Club and have been an active member since. I have also been a committee member for many years. What is your favourite discipline now? Reining. How did you get into your favourite discipline? During this time I developed an interest in Reining. I was impressed with the big stops from speed; fast turns and circles that the good horses and riders could do. Is there someone in your discipline you admire or you aspire to be like? I attended lessons and clinics of trainers I respected, like Ian Francis, Rick Tranter, Rob Hodgeman, Peter Gould, etc. Page 38 • The Australian Quarter Horse Magazine • January • February • 2018 Do you train horses for outside clients? Since about the age of 15 I have started, trained and shown my own and outside horses. What is your favourite horse? My favorite horse is a five year old, Spinnin Whiz, which I’m training now and is my favourite. How many horses do you have? I have two, two year olds I’m starting right now and also Spinnin Whiz. Do you breed horses as well as train and compete? I have bred my own horses in the past, but generally buy my prospects now. Name some horses you have trained. Some horses I have trained and shown include: - Larado Lodge Bandito - 2005 Intermediate and Limited Open Southern Series Champion; Leos Little Beaver - 2006 place
