The Yearling Lunge was won by Thomas the Smooch Engine shown by Kayla Rainoldi. The 2yr Lunge was won by CVS Hes Got Attitude, shown and owned by Jess Goudge. The pair also went on to win the 2yr Led Trail with Catty Hawks Rose shown by Robyn MacMillan in Reserve. On the Saturday night we were fortunate enough to have a Long Table dinner. A great way to unwind from a busy day and for all competitors to catch up and socialise. A massive thank you to Melissa and Tyson Deutscher for donating the pig for the spit and cooking it to perfection. A handful of the ridden trail was run after a short break. A very special event was next on the program – the ‘Joyful Firefly’ Trail Memorial Feature. It had only been the Monday before the State Show that we received the devastating news of the sudden passing of the great ‘Joyful Firefly’. “Fly” as the little palomino mare was efficiently known as, epitomized the Australian Quarter Horse. This mare was a true all-rounder and did all the events super consistently with Youth and Amateurs aboard. Her favorite class was the Trail where Fly and her owner Bridget de Bijl often winning all the Trail events. It was a no brainer that from the 2017 State Show and onwards, the All Age Trail Feature would become a memorial in Fly's honour. Congratulations to Im Pawsitivley Surelygood ridden Sunday the 19th was the final day of the State Championships where the Western ridden events were held. The Senior Horse Trail was won by This Zipnlee ridden by Rita Driscoll. This duo also went on to win the All Age and Select Amateur Ranch Riding. Tracy Allen riding Calamitys Commander won the Select Amateur Trail and were Reserve in the Senior Horse. Tracey also went onto win the Select Amateur Horsemanship with Lesley Elder and YLS Foolish Pleasure taking out Reserve. Mia Tierney had many wins throughout the show, including the Youth 7-13yrs Western Horsemanship. Before the lunch break we held the Youth Walk/Jog 5-10yrs Pleasure and Youth Lead Line. Congratulations to Chloe Deutscher riding Littlestone Look Im Lazy and Ella Manney riding Inscription on your State Champion title in the Walk/Jog events. Our quadruple State Champions in the ledline went to Celeste Casotti, Autumn Greig, Tyler Kanther and Bianca Balgera, all very fortunate enough to be riding some of Australia’s best bred Quarter Horses. Well done to all the kids and a massive thankyou to Paula Balgera for sponsoring the two events. Our final events on the program were the Western Pleasure Classes. The Amateur Senior event was won by Kerry Blackaller riding Winderadeen Somehotlies, with Paula Balgera in Reserve riding Winderadeen Gay Bay Mickey. Our Novice Youth Champion was Mia Tollarzo riding Jett Lee, Amateur Junior was taken out by Melissa Deutscher riding Littlestone Look Im Lazy and Select Amateur went to Lesley Elder riding YLS Foolish Pleasure. All shows cannot be held without our great volunteers.
