Groundhog Day Run (February 3rd): Celebrate Groundhog Day AND the classic Bill Murray movie of the same name at Equestrian Park in Henderson. All ages are welcome to participate in the 5K race. Like the plot to the movie, racers will travel round and round the loop trail won- dering when the crazy ride ends. But don’t worry; Bristlecone Events will provide fun ways to keep track of your laps, and you’ll see bits of the movie on each loop. The easy-to-follow course will have an aid station and lots of encouraging volunteers along the route. Adventurous adult trail run- ners can participate in the Blood, Sweat and Beers 5K, 10K, 30K, Half Marathon and Marathon races on the same day. After the race, families can explore the fascinating geological formations and ancient rock art in Petroglyph Canyon. Adult races include 50-mile, 26.2-mile, 13.1-mile, 1K and 5K distances on both tech- nical and groomed trails. The talented young artists that performed this jazzy tribute to America’s military are part of Camp Broadway, a national award‐winning theatre arts enrichment company with a chapter at our very own Smith Center for the Performing Arts. We, of course, are especially proud of the eight local kids who rep‐ resented our fair city! Among them were 15‐year‐old Emma Mathes from Faith Lutheran High School, the daughter of an active duty U.S. Air Force colonel, and 14‐year‐old Molly Martin from Green Valley High School, whose grandfather served in the European theater in World War II. Additional outstanding local talents include Kara Brantley (11), Jai Colley (10), Madison Fox (14), Morgan Stewart (14), Maya Wong (14) and Brayden Zhang (10). Congratulations on a job well done!
