2. What is the movement's goal and purpose?
Dance has evolved so much in the last 5-10 years and with social media being a quick way to 'become famous' a lot of the hard work, training, and auditioning to be a seasoned dancer has become lost/blurred in the process. Janet who has set the bar and tone for music and dance has worked with the BEST in the dance industry. Junior has watched this evolution and knew that if he could get some of the choreographers and dancers that have worked with Janet, that would be the perfect storm to share dance education, tour tips and tricks, and a 'Day in the Life Experience' for what it takes to work for someone like Janet Jackson.
3. What does JanFam: The Movement do?
JFTM has a 1 or 2 day dance experience called "Tourography", focusing on teaching dancers the process it takes to work for Janet. We start the day with stretching/yoga to condition and prepare your body, next is audition class, where we learn what an audition is like and what does a choreographer look for in an audition. Props class is next, learning to dance with chairs and scarves. The tour/music video rehearsal is a class that the choreographers teach, a combo that they are creating on the fly at a quick pace helping a dancer's memory. The final class is performance! JFTM wants to help create the next era of pioneers and icons of dance!
4. How has Janet inspired the movement?
Janet's music and dance are why this experience exists. The blueprint that Janet has created and her iconic choreography is timeless. Having the opportunity to have the creators behind the dance steps teach those moves in class is inspiring and motivating for everyone in class.
5. Who from Janet's team is supporting the movement and how?
The faculty is comprised of every era of Janet's music from Control to Unbreakable. We have had Tina Landon, Anthony Thomas, Terry Bixler, Omar Lopez, Rob Vinson, Mike Andrews, Ed Moore, Anthony Garza, Marty Kudelka, Cassidy Noblett, and Allison Claire Buczkowski. Each faculty teaches original choreography to a song that they have choreographed for Janet. Each one tailored to the part of the “Tourography” schedule.
6. What are the next steps for JanFam: The Movement?
The next steps for JFTM is to have one large 2 day event this upcoming April in Los Angeles, California. After that stay tuned for additional cities and dance studios for upcoming events. If a dance studio is interested in bringing JFTM to their city please reach out via social media!
