Janet Jackson has inspired me in multiple ways. I have been in the industry all my life. I was going through childhood abuse and watching Good Times kinda lifted a lot of stress. She was my childhood crush. When watching Diff’rent Strokes, I liked the part when she sang to Mr. Drumming’s adopted son.
Well as I got older I found out she was Janet Jackson; I was blown away by her Would You Mind performances online. I thought wow her persistence is just like mine but I’m not trying to do all that LOL.
I continued to work hard dancing and recording with multiple engineers. I rehearsed to all of the Jackson 5 music. ABC was my favourite. I would break down to some James Brown. As the middle child I was the lead in a group started by my mom’s husband. My sister who past at 32, April 13th this year, said she was going to sing with me when her cancer got better. She told me to stay encouraged in the Lord and what ever happens continue with your music and producing. She let me use her computer, which took 30 minutes to load, we laughed. So I was in her basement crying, she said, ‘what’s wrong?’ I said, ‘I want to marry Janet Jackson’. She said ‘awe, tell her’. She said ‘keep trying, maybe you can be a dancer’. I said, ‘well I could play electric guitar to Black Cat or be a backing singer’. She said, ‘well ok get to work’.
Whenever she or my family saw or heard anything on the TV or radio about Janet they would run to get me. I would laugh, heart racing. It was awards, Good Times, Diff’rent Strokes or just her streaming again on cable radio.
Janet is so inspiring, I would be rehearsing and when I sing I think of Janet as the target! I sing ABC, its easy as one two three I tell ya to do re me cuz that’s how easy love can be cuz that’s how easy love can be Giiirrl. WAM I get knocked into the bass drum LOL. I love her bass artwork,
Anyway I ran away from home, got put out at 11yrs old. I’ve been on my own ever since. I started drinking really bad going through depression. I visit my family every now and then. My sister before she passed asked my mom if I could come and stay with her. I been here 8 months and don’t want to leave but I know I have too. Mom had always said you need to be discovered. I said I know mom. So I said I’m gonna do my own music and I did. So I created PUSH WEIGHT PRODUCTIONZ. Janet Jackson Is my DREAM and motivation.
