FA: We are so excited for “On My Block”
season 2, tell us about it?
JM: I’m so beyond excited and nervous about
season two! You’re going to see a lot more of
Jasmin. I just hope the audience is as happy to
see her as I was to play her.
FA: What can we expect to see from your
character in the second season?
JM: You’ll be able to see different layers of her
personality that you may not have seen in the
first season leading you to understand why she
is the way she is.
FA: What has it been like to be part of “On
My Block cast”?
JM: It’s been one of my favorite projects in my
career. I’m just so proud to be a part of a show
that I would have been a diehard fan of - if I
wasn’t involved. It’s just a beautifully written
show, and I’m honored to be a part of this beau-
tiful cast of POC (people of color).
a room that’s on the stage that we can hang out
in and we do. All of us as a cast and we go over
our scripts together, laugh, cry whatever it is,
we do it together in that room. We don’t run to
our trailers and never speak we’re always to-
gether and that bond shows on screen, we’re a
family and that’s definitely my favorite part.
FA: It’s our Women empowerment issue
and we couldn’t be prouder than featur-
ing you as our cover girl, what women
empowerment means to you?
JM: First of all, I’m honored to be your cover
girl. Thank you so much! Women empowerment
means a lot to me. As a woman in this industry
and a woman, in general, I’ve learned that it’s
a very different world out there for us than it is
for men. We struggle with being taken seriously
and being respected in positions of power and
I feel like that has helped trickle down to how
women have been portrayed in film and televi-
sion. With more women showrunners, produc-
ers, writers, and directors, there are much bet-
ter opportunities for the stories of women to be
accurate to our lives rather than a “damsel in
distress” situation where we as women always
need saving. I’m determined to spread my cre-
ative wings in the direction of writing, produc-
ing, and directing so I can also help to change
the narrative of how women are portrayed on
screen. It’s time for the world to see women sav-
ing themselves because we do so every day.
FA: What’s your favourite part about
playing
Jasmin?
JM: I love being able to live freely through her.
Jasmin doesn’t think before she speaks so it’s
been a blast saying everything that comes to
her mind regardless of how crass or inappro-
priate the timing may be. She’s always looking
to be accepted and liked by her peers which I
think is such a human quality in all of us and is
so relatable; drew me to her the most.
