FA: Thank you for chatting with us and tell us about yourself a little bit? LB: Hi! Well, I’m an Asian American actress who plays Bex on Disney Channel’s “Andi Mack.” I started performing improv comedy in high school, and kept up with it through college, and afterwards. I have one kitty who is turning 17 in Jan. His name is Doc. FA: Did you always gravitate towards acting? LB: I have wanted to act since I was very little. I got involved with my school plays, and my par- ents would drive me to local commercial audi- tions. When I was younger, I thought it would be wise to also have a backup career option in case acting didn’t work out, but I never developed a backup option! FA: You’ve done a lot of short films. Do you have any favorites? LB: I did one where I played the video game character Alyx Vance for a Youtube Channel called Corridor Digital. That was a short ac- tion-y film and a lot of fun. I also recently did a short called Linds, which was produced and directed by a friend of mine, Paul Cummings. It’s the exact opposite, no action, just talking. I loved how simple it was. FA: What do you look forward to in 2019? LB: I’m taking a trip to Taiwan with my mom and brother in early 2019 and I’m really excited to go! FA: Tell me about the process of getting to play Bex for Andi Mack? LB: What’s great about Bex is that I think she’s a lot like me. She likes to have fun, sometimes makes corny or sarcastic jokes, and really works hard to improve herself. I can apply a lot of myself in the character of Bex. FA: What makes Andi Mack special? LB: I can’t describe to you how special I think this show is. The cast gets along, and the crew gets along. Everyone has their different jobs to make the show look and feel as great as it is, but at the end of the day, we feel like one big family. I’m proud of the messages of Andi Mack, and how it deals with real life issues pre-teens may be going through. FA: What’s your favorite thing about Andi Mack and what makes you inspired about the show? LB: I feel proud of the impact these messages can have on this generation. Through Andi and her friends, and through her family dynamics, we can see forgiveness, empathy, and love for all different kinds of people who are going through different kinds of personal journeys. I’m an adult but I feel like I’d watch Andi Mack even if I wasn’t on it. Everyone has their different jobs to make the show look and feel as great as it is. ISSUE 49 - 2019 January
