That consistency in the run game starts up front , where the offensive line has been under construction in the preseason . Center Brandon Linder returned to the lineup last week , and with A . J . Cann at right guard and Jermey Parnell at right tackle , the right side of the line seems solidified . The questions continue on the left side , with Luke Joeckel getting another start at left tackle last week .
“ I think it was Luke ’ s most physical game that he ’ s played as a Jag , where he showed up and really attempted to be physical ,” Bradley said after the game . “ I think sometimes , people will play more physical when they really understand the assignments and their jobs . He ’ s on it now .”
Free-agent tackle Kelvin Beachum saw increased reps on the practice field against the Buccaneers , but has not played in a game since tearing an ACL last year while with the Pittsburgh Steelers . If Beachum gets through practice this week confident in where he stands , he could see some snaps in tonight ’ s game .
On the defensive side of the ball , rookie cornerback Jalen Ramsey made his preseason debut against the Bucs , and set the tone early . On the opening drive , Ramsey tackled running back Charles Sims III for a six-yard loss , and finished with three total tackles , a solid opening game after missing the Jets game as a precaution following offseason knee surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus .
“ Corners have to tackle ,” Ramsey said after the game . “ Maybe some other corners don ’ t , but I ’ m not ordinary . I feel like I ’ m the prototypical corner . I ’ m six-feet-two , 210 pounds . I ’ m getting in there . I knew that was part of their game plan and I wasn ’ t going to let coaches and my teammates down .
“ You can look at my high school film and my college film and see my tackling . I ’ m never going to change .”
After two days of practice work against the Bucs during the week , the Jaguars defensive “ starters ” played 17 snaps , shutting out Tampa Bay on the two drives they were on the field .
The defense as a whole picked up a pair of interceptions against the Bucs , including a first-quarter Dwayne Gratz pick of quarterback Jameis Winston with the second team defense . But for the second straight week , penalties marred a solid effort , especially on the defensive side . The Jaguars finished the Bucs game with 13 accepted penalties for 121 yards .
